History

The Association was formed in November 1964 following a meeting at the World's End Public House at Mulbarton, near Norwich. The pub had formed various clubs and teams, one of which being a shooting club based at Mulbarton. From that it was decided to try and form a wildfowling club and advertisements were placed in the local press. As a result of that meeting the NDWA was formed with an initial 40 members.

It was agreed that affiliation to "The Wildfowlers Association of Great Britain and Ireland" (now BASC) should be sought and in February 1965 the club affiliated with 63 fully paid up members for a sum of 2/6d each.  Club membership subscription was £1 per annum.

During 1965, membership had risen to over 100 and a waiting list was
forming. Membership subscriptions were then increased to 2 guineas and those
wishing to join the waiting list had to pay 10 shillings to be on the list. The
club was busy acquiring shooting rights and setting up the finer points of
running a club, such as getting a President and having a set of rules.

By 1966 the club had approximately 380 acres of marsh plus extensive
amounts of pigeon shooting. There was also an increase in the social side of
the club. Membership was increasing all the time, so much so that in 1967 the
top limit for membership was increased from 150 to 175 in a bid to reduce the
waiting list. The club had acquired the shooting on marshes now totaling
almost 1000 acres.

Since formation in 1964 the social side of the club has flourished. It now
boasts, as part and parcel of the main club a strong dog section that runs
training classes for novices and experts, members and non members alike, and a
clay pigeon shooting section that shoot once a month .

The club maintains a strong local profile with its stand each year at the
Royal Norfolk Show and the biannual event at Holkham Hall Country Fair. The
club also has regular monthly meetings for which the club has regular speakers,
which can be on any subject from shooting to customs & excise, to the
Wherry Trust and even the legend of King Arthur.

Anyone who is interested in joining would be very welcome to apply.
